Brewarrina is gearing up for another burst of colour, character and cheek as the Bald Archy Art Prize Exhibition returns later this month, bringing its unmistakable blend of satire, humour and artistic flair back to rural NSW.

Celebrated for its playful send‑up of the traditional Archibald Prize, the Bald Archy has long carved out its own place in Australia’s cultural landscape. Each year, artists from across the country take aim at public figures, pop‑culture icons and headline‑makers, producing portraits that are as bold as they are entertaining.

This year’s exhibition will kick off with an Opening Night Celebration on Friday May 29. The full collection will then be on display at the Brewarrina Visitors Information Centre from Saturday May 30 through to Saturday June 27, 2026.

True to tradition, the exhibition is once again judged by Maude the sulphur‑crested cockatoo, adding to the event’s unmistakable charm.

The 2026 finalists showcase a lively mix of well‑known Australian personalities, with works capturing everyone from Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, political figures including Bob Katter, Pauline Hanson and Peter Dutton, sporting stars and famous Aussie faces like Robert Irwin and Celeste Barber.

Brewarrina Shire Council General Manager David Kirby said he was delighted to welcome the famous exhibition back to the region again.

“The Bald Archy always brings something unexpected, and that’s what makes it such a joy to host,” Mr Kirby said.

“It invites people to see art differently — to laugh, to think, and to engage with creativity in a way that feels accessible and fun. Having it here in Bre again is a real win for our community, and I’m excited to welcome visitors who’ll experience our region’s energy and hospitality.”

Opening Night tickets are $20, including entry, drinks and canapes, and can be purchased at the door.

General exhibition entry is FREE, with the exhibition open 9am–5pm weekdays and 10am–2pm weekends from May 30 to June 27.
