Brewarrina Shire Council is proud to launch its Autumn School Holiday Program, offering a mix of hands‑on learning, practical life skills and safe spaces for young people throughout the April break.

This year’s program features two standout opportunities designed to support young people in building confidence, independence and pathways for the future: a three‑day Barber & Hair Workshop and free one‑on‑one driving lessons through Ally’s Driving School. The Brewarrina Youth Centre will also be open across the holidays, providing a welcoming environment for movies, music, chill time and the youth gym.

Brewarrina Shire Council General Manager David Kirby said the program reflects Council’s commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for young people.

“Every school holidays, our goal is to offer more than just activities. We want to give our young people real chances to grow, learn and build skills that stay with them for life,” said Mr Kirby.

“This year’s program does exactly that. Whether it’s learning the basics of a trade or gaining confidence behind the wheel, these opportunities can genuinely change a young person’s future.”

Barber & Hair Workshop – 7, 8 & 9 April

Delivered by the Community Hair Project, this free hands‑on workshop teaches the fundamentals of barbering and hairdressing. Participants will learn practical techniques and receive a free starter kit including scissors or clippers, comb, cape, clips and water spray.
“For some of our young people, this could be the first step toward a career,” Mr Kirby said.

Ally’s Driving School – 15 & 16 April

Young people aged 16–18 with their Learner Licence can access free one‑on‑one driving lessons with a professional instructor. Each one‑hour lesson counts as three logbook hours, helping young drivers progress more quickly and safely.

Mr Kirby said access to driving lessons is especially important in remote communities.

“Being able to drive is essential out here — it opens doors to work, education and independence. We’re proud to support our young people to take that step safely and confidently.”

Youth Centre Open – 7 to 17 April

The Brewarrina Youth Centre will be open 9am–5pm, Monday to Friday, offering movies, music, chill spaces and the youth gym.
(Closed Monday 6 April for the public holiday.)

Mr Kirby said the Youth Centre remains a vital hub for young people during the holidays.

“It’s a safe, welcoming place where young people can connect, relax and be supported by our youth team. It’s an important part of keeping our community strong.”
