The Brewarrina Blizzard is BACK!

Brewarrina Shire Council is thrilled to announce the return of the much-anticipated Brewarrina Blizzard in 2025, transforming the remote community into a winter wonderland for a third consecutive year.

The 2025 Brewarrina Blizzard, with a full-sized ice rink, snow experience, food vendors and more, will blow into town from Monday July 7 to Sunday July 13 offering locals, surrounding regions and travellers an unforgettable experience in the heart of the outback, and all completely free*.

Brewarrina Shire Council General Manager David Kirby said he was very much looking forward to bringing the Brewarrina Blizzard back to town again this year, offering the isolated community an experience many would have only seen on TV.

“An ice-skating rink and ‘snow’ is definitely not what you expect to find in one of the hottest and driest towns in remote Australia,” Mr Kirby said.

“Since its inception in 2023, we have welcomed almost 30,000 skaters to the ice, offering residents and visitors alike the chance to take part in activities and experiences that have never been available in this part of the world. The festival has quickly become a beloved tradition, providing a gateway to winter fun and community connection.

“But it’s more than just a well-loved free event; it’s a celebration of community spirit and inclusivity. For many residents in our remote area, the festival offers a rare opportunity to experience the joys of winter right here in our own backyard.

“It’s a Council-driven and funded initiative that not only brings joy and excitement but also stimulates tourism and the local economy by attracting visitors and supporting local businesses. It also engages our youth through experiences and work opportunities, boosting personal and community development, fostering social cohesion and uplifting our young people.”

The weeklong free festival will open daily from 10am to 8pm, with the lawns of the Brewarrina Visitor Information Centre transformed into a magnificent polar paradise. Visitors will be able to pre-book the hourly ice skate sessions online via 123tix (booking fees apply) or at the door (unless sold out).

As well as ice skating, the festival will feature a snow experience, variety of food and drink vendors, and fun and engaging places sit back and take in the scenes.

“We are also calling out to local businesses and organisations interested in taking part in the festival to get in touch. Whether that’s food vendors, stall holders or sponsors,” added Mr Kirby.

“This year we are also hoping to give a local organisation the opportunity to operate the BBQ out of our kitchen facility within the precinct as a fundraiser. With 15,000 expected to hit the ice again this year, it’s an incredible chance to make some real money for your organisation.”

Organisations and business interested in finding out more about the opportunities at the Brewarrina Blizzard are encouraged to call 02 6830 5100 or email edc@brewarrina.nsw.gov.au

Ice skating session bookings for the Blizzard will open soon, and further details for the event will be revealed in the coming months. Find out more by following Brewarrina Shire Council on Facebook and Instagram and by visiting www.brewarrina.nsw.gov.au/brewarrina-blizzard
