Brewarrina Shire Council does their part for national clean up action day
Despite the stifling 40+ degree day, Brewarrina Shire Council staff did their part to support Australia’s longest running and largest day of environmental action, Clean Up Australia Day, in their 35th year.
General Manager David Kirby and a number of staff members braved the heat, donning gloves and high vis to pick up rubbish on Sunday March 2, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability and community well-being.
Mr Kirby expressed his pride in the council staff who took the time out of their weekends to endure the high temperatures and make a tangible difference.
“I am incredibly proud of our team for their dedication and resilience. Despite the challenging weather, their hard work and enthusiasm exemplify the spirit of Brewarrina,” said Mr Kirby.
Clean Up Australia Day is a pivotal community action day that plays a crucial role in fostering environmental awareness and responsibility. It provides an opportunity for communities to come together, clean up their local areas, and promote sustainable practices.
“Events like these are vital for raising awareness about environmental issues and encouraging everyone to take responsibility for our surroundings,” Mr Kirby added.
“It’s about more than just cleaning up litter; it’s about cultivating a culture of care and respect for our environment and preserving and enhancing the natural beauty of our region.”
Council staff gathered at Naveena Street Park and Brewarrina town entrance and made their way across the railway flat collecting almost 10 bags of rubbish.
Brewarrina Shire Council staff were just a few of the more than 800,000 people from across the country committed to leading by example in environmental conservation efforts for Clean Up Australia Day.
“I want to encourage all residents to continue practicing sustainable habits throughout the year and help do their part every day by not littering, reducing waste and keeping our environment clean. By working together, we can create a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future,” concluded Mr Kirby.
