Brewarrina Shire Council has re‑elected Councillor Tommy Stanton as Mayor and Councillor Vivian Slack‑Smith as Deputy Mayor following a mid‑term election held at the September Council meeting.
The election, conducted as required by section 290 of the Local Government Act 1993, reaffirmed the confidence Councillors have in the current leadership team and their continued direction for Brewarrina Shire.
Now in his twelfth year on Council, Mayor Stanton said he was honoured to again be entrusted with the responsibility of leading the Shire.
“I am deeply honoured and grateful for the continued trust placed in me by my fellow Councillors and our community,” Mayor Stanton said.
“Over the past decade, I’ve been incredibly proud of Brewarrina’s resilience, growth and determination. Being re‑elected is a privilege, and I look forward to building on the strong foundations we’ve laid together.
“We have significant projects underway that will shape our modern and vibrant future, and I’m committed to ensuring every community across our shire benefits from that progress.”
Cr Slack‑Smith, who previously served two terms as Mayor and has long been a respected leader within Council, said she looked forward to continuing her work as Deputy Mayor and supporting the Mayor and Councillors through the remainder of the term.
Mayor Stanton and Deputy Mayor Slack‑Smith will continue to serve alongside Councillors Belinda Colless, Michael Pedersen, Jason Morton, Isaac Gordon, Mark Brown, Douglas Gordon and Trish Frail.
General Manager David Kirby congratulated the re‑elected leadership team and said he looked forward to continuing the strong partnership between Council, staff and the community.
“On behalf of Brewarrina Shire Council, I extend my sincere congratulations to Mayor Stanton and Deputy Mayor Slack‑Smith on their re‑election,” Mr Kirby said.
“Tommy’s experience, community focus and steady leadership have been invaluable, and Vivian’s long‑standing commitment to the shire continues to strengthen Council’s direction. Their leadership will play a key role as we deliver major projects, support community wellbeing and build a vibrant, inclusive future for Brewarrina.
“We look forward to a productive and inspiring remainder of the term.”
