Brewarrina’s Historic Barwon Bridge to Shine Bright This Christmas

Brewarrina Shire Council is set to light up the town this festive season, transforming the iconic almost 140-year-old Barwon Bridge into a spectacular centrepiece of holiday cheer. The Bridge will be lit up every evening throughout December, with the community invited to celebrate the festive season and the magic of sparkling historic landmark at a free community event at the Bridge on Wednesday December 17 from 8pm.

Brewarrina Shire Council General Manager David Kirby was thrilled the dazzling display was returning in 2025.

“The response to our first Barwon Bridge illumination in 2023 was amazing, so we knew we had to step it up and bring this sparkling tradition back to town again,” said Mr Kirby.

“Lighting up the Barwon Bridge not only highlights our iconic landmark but also brings people together during this special time of year. The bridge will be alight throughout December, and we invite everyone to join us for our free community event, coming together to celebrate the festive season, and the dazzling display.

“Alongside the Bridge lighting, we’ve also hung festive flags at all the Brewarrina town entrances to further spread the Christmas cheer, and Council is also proud to be supporting the annual Josiah Healing Centre Christmas Carols in Goodooga and Brewarrina.”

The Goodooga Christmas Carols will be held on Friday December 12 from 6pm at the Goodooga Splash Park with free drinks, BBQ, Christmas giveaways and a spectacular fireworks display.

The Brewarrina Carols will this year be held at Geoff New Oval on Saturday December 13 from 6pm, with free jumping castles for the kids, coffee and BBQ, cash prizes and giveaways, as well as fireworks for all to enjoy.

“I encourage everyone to visit the Barwon Bridge this Christmas or come along to the Christmas Carols and share in the spirit of the season. Whether you’re passing by or making a special trip, the bridge’s festive glow is sure to spread cheer throughout the region,” concluded Mr Kirby.
