Have your say on getting BRE/ACTIVE
November 7, 2024 – The next stage of Brewarrina Shire Council’s plan to get communities across the shire more active and make moving around each of their towns and villages safe, simple and more accessible for all is kicking off with the launch of a community feedback survey and in-person consultation happening across the shire.
Brewarrina Shire Council General Manager David Kirby said knowing how residents and visitors move around the shire is paramount in creating BRE/ACTIVE – their new Active Transport Strategy. That’s why the project team will be visiting each of the towns and villages in the shire throughout next week, starting with a community drop-in session in Brewarrina on Wednesday November 13.
“Our Active Transport Strategy aims to develop a plan for each of our towns and villages that will address active transport infrastructure, promote health and sustainability, improve connectivity, and ensure the safety of all when moving around our communities,” said Mr Kirby.
“To effectively enhance our active transport infrastructure, it’s crucial we gather detailed insights from our residents about their current walking and cycling patterns. We need to understand popular routes and identify areas with connectivity gaps. We can then analyse this information to pinpoint areas where infrastructure improvements, such as new bike lanes, pedestrian pathways and lighting, can be most impactful.
“We want to make sure any future infrastructure upgrades actually adds value and makes a real difference for our residents, that’s why it’s crucial the community gets involved,” said Mr Kirby.
Residents are being encouraged to complete a survey to provide their feedback and insights on how they move about the shire. The survey is available on here and at Council’s offices.
The project team will also be talking to community members and key stakeholders during their time in each of the towns and villages across the shire. Residents of Gongolgon, Weilmoringle, Goodooga and Angledool are encouraged to register their interest for in-person meetings via Council’s website.
Brewarrina residents can also register their interest or on Wednesday November 13, drop in to Memorial Park between 9am and 11am or to the Brewarrina Pool between 4pm and 5.30pm to meet with the team and Council staff to find out more about the project and provide their insights on improving the active transport network.
“Keep an eye on our social pages for exact times and locations for in-person sessions, or make sure you complete the survey to have your say on improving the future of our shire,” concluded Mr Kirby.
