The Brewarrina Big Sky Library is open six days a week and located next to Counci’s offices at 57 Bathurst Street, Brewarrina. Big Sky Libraries is a partnership between Brewarrina Shire Council, Walgett Shire Council and Moree Shire Council, with branches in Brewarrina, Walgett, Lightening Ridge and Moree offering a range of free services, programs and resources. Monday to Friday from 9.00am to 4.00pm.

Closed for lunch from 12pm to 1pm.

Saturday from 10am to 12pm. 

Library Services

Big Skies Library branches offer a range of materials that you can access free of charge including books, newspapers and magazines, DVD’s and audio books as well as ebooks. Also available are free programs and resources ranging from early childhood, community interest, education, literacy, and recreational programs that cover a multitude of interests and topics suitable for everyone. 

You can use our computers to access the internet and Microsoft Office, plus printing (for a fee), scanning and free wifi. Our friendly staff are also available to assist, whether it be with technology questions right through to book recommendations. 

For our younger members we offer story time plus a selection of board games and lego, alongside a wide variety of resources designed to help with homework and assignments. 

Big Sky Libraries also provides free 24/7 access to our eResources including eBooks, eMagazines, movies, and other online resources. Access to these resources is via an internet connection, and are available through applications such as Libby, BorrowBox, Kanopy, IndyReads and Wheelers. All you need is your library card!

Printing is also available, with a 70c per page for black & white prints, and $1.50 per page for colour.

Becoming a member

Membership of the Library service is free to all residents of the Shire. You can join in person at the Library by presenting proof of your name and current address. There is no minimum age for joining, but those under the age of 18 years require a signature from their parent or guardian.

 Your membership card will be posted to the address you provide on the online membership application form.

Conditions of membership

  • To borrow items you must present your library membership card.
  • Videos, DVDs and magazines are available for two week loan, all other items may be borrowed for four weeks.
  • You may borrow up to thirty items on your card. These can be borrowed from and returned to any branch of the Big Sky Library Service.
  • Items may be renewed twice at any branch. Staff are happy to renew items over the telephone during opening hours, please have your library card number on hand. If a reservation has been placed on an item you have on loan a renewal is not permitted.
  • Items may be returned at any branch of the Library. After hour chutes are available at all branches. Items left in the chute after hours are regarded as having been returned on the next open day.
  • Overdue fines are charged for the late return of items.
  • Membership is suspended if you have overdues items and outstanding charges.
  • Overdue notices are a courtesy reminder for your convenience. A small fee is charged for processing these notices.
  • A reservation and/or inter-library loan service is available for those items which are on loan, available at another branch or at another library service. A small fee is charged for this service. You can place your own reservations for most items via the public access catalogues at our branches or through the Library Service online catalogue.
  • All costs incurred by the Library due to items lost or damaged whilst in your care must be reimbursed.
  • All reservation, inter-library loan and lost membership card charges are non-refundable.
  • If you change your address or name please notify us immediately.
  • Please report lost cards to the library immediately. You will be held responsible for any items borrowed before the loss is reported.
  • Membership details are confidential and will not be disclosed to other parties.
