Connecting Community: Brewarrina’s 2026 “Welcome to Bre” event

 Brewarrina Shire Council is pleased to announce the return of their much‑loved ‘Welcome to Bre’ event, dedicated to welcoming new residents and strengthening community connections. This year’s gathering will be held on Wednesday, February 25, commencing at 5:30 pm at the Brewarrina Visitor Information Centre.

General Manager David Kirby said the event continues to play an important role in helping new residents feel at home while celebrating the spirit and diversity of the Brewarrina community.

“The ‘Welcome to Bre’ event is a crucial initiative for our community. It helps new residents, and their families, settle in by providing them with a platform to meet others, find out about community groups and services in town, and build networks,” Mr Kirby said.

The 2026 event will again bring together new residents, long‑term locals, and a wide range of community groups and organisations.

“Our community’s diversity and vibrancy are our greatest strengths, and this event is a celebration of that. We look forward to welcoming our new residents and supporting them as they become an integral part of our community.”

The evening will include a warm welcome from Mayor Stanton and Councillors, along with opportunities for residents, new and established, to meet, mingle and build connections. Community groups, service providers and local organisations are encouraged to attend, showcase what they offer, and help new residents find their place in the Brewarrina Shire.

Mr Kirby, Mayor Stanton, fellow Councillors and Council staff will also be on hand to personally meet new community members in a relaxed and friendly setting. Key stakeholders such as schools, health services, police and fire services, and local businesses are invited to participate.

Each new resident will receive a welcome pack featuring local information, including business listings, health services, school contacts and other helpful resources to support their transition into the community.

Light refreshments and snacks will be provided.

“We hope to see all our community groups and organisations, local businesses and service providers come along to help our new community members settle in,” Mr Kirby added.
