Construction tender now open for Four Mile Reserve redevelopment

April 14, 2025 – Brewarrina Shire Council’s extensive $1.5 million makeover project for the Four Mile Reserve has moved into the next phase with requests for tender now issued for construction.

The aspiring development is set to renew the popular riverside camping and recreation site for locals and visitors alike, with new facilities, landscaping and improved access to the river.

Brewarrina Shire Council General Manager David Kirby said the makeover will transform the much-loved space into a modern and vibrant place for all to enjoy and use.

“I am very pleased we are now moving into crunch time for this exciting revitalisation. Four Mile has long been a favourite spot for the local community and travellers to enjoy our beautiful river, fish, camp, boat and more. These improvements will upgrade the already much-loved space while also making some practical changes to make it more accessible for everyone, and more resistant to flooding events,” said Mr Kirby.

The redevelopment project will introduce several new facilities and features inspired by the local culture and environment. These enhancements include new amenities with bathrooms and showers, a shaded BBQ area with seating, improved access to the river through a stabilised bank and removable floating jetty and pontoon, expansive grassed areas, and upgraded roads and footpaths. All these improvements will be fully wheelchair accessible and designed to withstand flooding events.

The request for tender closes 11am on Friday May 9, 2025, with tender documents for the construction available via Brewarrina Shire Council’s Tenderlink profile, at https://portal.tenderlink.com/brewarrina

“We’ll keep the community updated on progress of the project, and how this may impact the use of Four Mile during construction. But I just want to reassure everyone that the boat ramp will still be open and accessible throughout the development, free camping will remain, and we do not anticipate any major impacts for the upcoming Bre Big Fish in June,” concluded Mr Kirby.
