Flood Update – December 11, 2024
December 11, 2024 – The NSW SES has provided the following updates to the people of the Brewarrina Shire and surround:
THE TOWNSHIPS OF BREWARRINA & BOURKE ARE NOT EXPECTED TO BE ISOLATED.
What are we expecting?
The Bureau of Meteorology advises minor flooding may occur along the Barwon River downstream of Walgett to Brewarrina.
The Barwon River at Brewarrina is currently at 3.13 metres and rising slowly, below the minor flood level.
The Barwon River at Brewarrina may reach the minor flood level (6.40 m) mid-late next week (18 – 21 December).
Predictions for Brewarrina and Bourke will be refined as the flood peak progress downstream.
The Darling River at Bourke is currently at 4.67 metres and rising slowly. The Darling River at Bourke may exceed the minor flood level (9.50 m) during the last week of December. The river level may reach around 10.00 metres at the end of December or early January.
Based on predictions from the Bureau of Meteorology, the following areas may be impacted by flooding:
- Low lying rural properties and homesteads adjacent to the Barwon River between Walgett and Bourke may become isolated by flood water.
- Livestock, machinery and pumps in low lying areas may be affected and should be moved to higher ground.
- Low lying bridges, and roads may be affected.
- Unsealed roads may become unpassable.
