Construction work on the highly anticipated Four Mile Reserve makeover project is now underway. The redevelopment, valued at over one million dollars, will see the transformation of the iconic and popular riverside site into a modern destination for both locals and visitors. Completion is expected by early June, subject to unforeseen delays or inclement weather, just in time for the annual Brewarrina Big Fish.

During the construction period, the amenities, boat ramp and wooden jetty will be closed to the public to allow crews to safely carry out works.

The local community and travellers will still have access to the river and riverside free camping will remain available via an alternate route. Those wishing to launch boats during the closure can do so at the “Boat Ramp” Reserve near the Barwon Bridge off the Kamilaroi Highway.  

The Four Mile Reserve redevelopment will deliver a suite of new features, including upgraded amenities, shaded BBQ areas and seating, improved river access with stabilised banks and floating jetty, plus enhanced roads, footpaths and grassed areas. All facilities will be wheelchair accessible and designed to withstand flooding events, reflecting Council’s commitment to inclusivity and resilience.

Brewarrina Shire Council General Manager David Kirby he was thrilled to be moving forward with construction on this exciting project.

“Four Mile Reserve has always been a special place for our community and visitors to the region, and these improvements will ensure it remains a safe, welcoming and accessible space for generations to come,” said Mr Kirby.

“I’d like to thank everyone for their understanding and cooperation while work is underway. We know there may be some temporary inconvenience, but the end result will be well worth it.

“We will keep the community updated on progress throughout the works and we are committed to minimising disruption and expediting the project wherever possible. We appreciate the patience of our residents and visitors, and we’re looking forward to unveiling the new-look Four Mile Reserve in early June ready for one of our biggest events of the year, the Bre Big Fish.”
