Goodooga Artesian Bore Baths to close for summer season
The Goodooga Artesian Bore Baths will temporarily close for the summer season from November 30, 2024, and re-open prior to the peak tourist season on March 1, 2025.
Brewarrina Shire Council General Manager David Kirby said Councillor’s resolved the matter to close the facility during the summer period at their recent Ordinary Meeting so essential repairs and maintenance work could be carried out, and to manage resources during the usually very quiet visitor period.
“As we all know, our summers are extremely hot and the appeal of a hot bore bath is significantly reduced during this period. That’s why we’ve decided it’s best from both a resource perspective and a repairs and maintenance perspective to close the Goodooga Bore Baths for the off season when visitors are rare,” said Mr Kirby.
While the facility is closed Council will carry out a project to upgrade to the lining of the baths, improving efficiency and the appeal of the extremely popular tourist attraction.
“We are one of the only facilities to drain and pressure clean our baths weekly, which has contributed to making it a very popular hot spot during the busy tourist season, but this constant maintenance does take a toll on our resources during the off season.
“The popularity of the Goodooga Bore Baths has even surprised us over the past few years, so we want to ensure we maintain the facility for years to come and operate efficiently while use is reduced,” added Mr Kirby.
From November 30, 2024, the pool will be closed but the other facilities, including the bathrooms will remain open.
“Water will still be present in the baths during the closure period to ensure the structural integrity of the facility remains and isn’t damaged during the summer heat but temporary fencing will be installed around the baths. For the convenience of the community, the bathroom facilities will however remain open 24 hours a day as usual.
“We look forward to reopening the facility on March 1, 2025, just in time for the start of the busy tourist season, and recommended locals take full advantage of the brand-new Splash Park facility just up the road during the warmer months,” concluded Mr Kirby.
