Draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2025–2029

Brewarrina Shire Council has placed its Draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) 2025–2029 on public exhibition and is inviting the community to review the document and provide feedback.

The Draft DIAP outlines Council’s commitment to building a community where every person is valued, respected and able to participate fully in everyday life. The Plan has been shaped by community engagement undertaken through the development of the Community Strategic Plan, including surveys, workshops and conversations with local organisations and residents.

The document recognises that disability and inclusion in a remote community like Brewarrina are shaped by distance, limited services, ageing, cultural context and the everyday environments people move through.

Mayor Thomas Stanton said the Draft DIAP reflects the voices and lived experiences of the community.

“Inclusion is experienced in everyday moments – being able to get to the shops, attend an event, access information or feel comfortable in a public space,” said Councillor Stanton.

“This Plan has been shaped by the voices of our community. You told us what matters most: safer and more accessible footpaths, well‑maintained public spaces, better access to services, and practical support that makes everyday life easier.”

“Most importantly, this Plan reflects our belief that inclusion is not a single project or upgrade – it is an ongoing commitment to designing services, spaces and systems that work for everyone.”

The Draft DIAP sets out practical actions across four key focus areas:

• Inclusive attitudes and behaviours
• Liveable communities
• Employment
• Systems and processes

These actions include improving accessibility of footpaths and public spaces, enhancing Council communication, supporting inclusive employment practices and embedding accessibility considerations into all new infrastructure and planning processes.

The community is encouraged to review the Draft DIAP and provide feedback during the exhibition period.

The Draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2025–2029 is available HERE and at the Council Administration Office. Submissions can be made in writing until Tuesday June 23, 2026, and sent:
