After less than three months of construction, Brewarrina Shire Council is thrilled to announce Four Mile Reserve is now open to the public, following the completion of the majority of upgrade works under the recent redevelopment project. The revitalised riverside destination is now ready to welcome locals and visitors back ahead of the busy June long weekend and upcoming school holiday period – and just in time for one of the regions favourite events, the Brewarrina Big Fish.

Co‑funded by the Australian and NSW Governments through the Community Assets Program, the transformation delivers a refreshed, more accessible and more resilient public space, featuring upgraded amenities, shaded BBQ areas and seating, improved river access and floating jetty, alongside enhanced roads, footpaths, lighting and parking areas. Some landscaping working is still to be completed after recent rainfalls, but all facilities have been designed to withstand flooding events and support long‑term community use for all.

General Manager David Kirby said the reopening marks an important milestone for Brewarrina and the wider region and reflects the community’s long‑held connection to the site.

“Four Mile Reserve is one of those fantastic places that truly brings the community and travellers together. A spot where families gather, where people connect with the river, and where visitors get a real sense of our spectacular landscapes and community,” Mr Kirby said.

“I’m excited to reopen the reserve after the upgrades and thank the community for their patience. These works have significantly improved the safety, accessibility and resilience of the site, ensuring it can continue to support recreation, cultural connection and community events for many years to come.

“Four Mile Reserve has always held deep value for our community, and this investment ensures it remains a place we can all be proud of well into the future.”

The reopening follows less than three months of construction work. While the reserve is now open, some minor finishing works and landscaping will continue over the coming weeks. These activities will not impact public access, and Council will continue to provide updates as the final elements are completed.

The upgraded reserve is expected to play a key role in supporting the upcoming Brewarrina Big Fish, offering improved facilities and a refreshed riverside experience for competitors, families and visitors during one of the busiest weekends of the year.
