Brewarrina has once again defied expectations, as the third annual Brewarrina Blizzard wrapped up with resounding success on Sunday, July 13. More than 9,500 visitors converged on the week-long event, which transformed the outback community into a bustling hub of frosty festivities.

The Brewarrina Blizzard, now in its third year, has cemented its place as one of the region’s most anticipated events. This year’s edition saw locals and travellers from not only across the region visit, but as far flung as Bungundarra in north Queensland; Echuca in Victoria; and Frenchs Forest, Haberfield and Homebush in Sydney, enjoying the warm winter sun and the thrill of skating on real ice —a rarity for this part of the country that continues to draw in crowds from near and far.

Alongside the ice-skating rink and ‘snow’ experience, food vendors also experienced bumper trade, with early reports indicating this year’s event was the biggest by far.

Brewarrina Shire Council General Manager David Kirby was beyond thrilled with the success of the much-loved school holiday tradition.

“Seeing so many people smiling, skating, and making memories here in Brewarrina is truly magical,” said Mr Kirby.

“The Blizzard has not only put our town on the map for the premier regional events but shown what’s possible when a community comes together.”

With thousands of skaters of all ages hitting to the ice over the seven days, visitors to Brewarrina came from surrounding towns including Bourke, Walgett, Cobar, Carinda, Lightning Ridge, Nyngan and Warren.

Further afield, there were travellers from Sydney, Dubbo, Forbes, Orange, Bathurst, Hervey Bay, Moree, Somerton, Narrabri, Tamworth, Boorowa and Mudgee, as well as interstate visitors from Queensland and Victoria.

Sami’s Woodfired Pizza truck travelled from Wagga Wagga for the week-long event. They reported a great week of trading and were already looking forward to returning to Bre for the event next year.

“With each passing year, the Brewarrina Blizzard continues to grow in scale and ambition. A big thank you to the team for all their hard work and to everyone who took to the ice over the week. We are already looking ahead to 2026, promising more icy surprises and experiences for visitors of all ages,” concluded Mr Kirby.
